High School Graduate Shot Dead In Her Car; $50,000 Reward Offered To Find Her Killer

A recent high school graduate has been shot dead in Ohio, and now a $50,000 reward is out for information leading to her killer.

Na’kia Crawford, 18, was running errands with her grandmother when she was gunned down while inside a car in Akron, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon, according to a release from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Akron Police Department.

Crawford was taken to Akron City hospital, where she died from multiple gunshots around 1 am on Monday. Her grandmother was in the car with her at the time of the shooting and was not injured.

Witnesses said a black car pulled up behind Crawford’s car just before pulling up beside it to fire shots into the car.

Police recovered shell casings from the scene, but no arrests have been made.

On Tuesday, a $50,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible for the shooting.

“I and our entire community is mourning the loss of Na’kia Crawford,” Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan said at a news conference Tuesday. “Her senseless killing has rightfully impacted each and every one of us in a very personal way.

“Na’kia was only 18 years old, had just graduated from North High School, and had her future all decided at Central State University. Now because of a tragic act of incomprehensible violence, the future she dreamed of was stolen from her, and she deserves justice.”

Crawford’s family is donating $20,000 in reward money to Summit County Crimestoppers, and Dr. Cliff Deveny, President, and CEO of Summa Health is donating an additional $25,000 to Crimestoppers in Na’kia’s name.

There have been rumors circulating online that the shooting was racially motivated, but Lt. Michael Miller said the rumors are not confirmed, and there have not been any related random shootings in the area.
