Rap beefs are a longstanding part of hip-hop culture, ranging from personal feuds to lyrical battles. These feuds often captivate fans and take over media headlines due to gritty diss tracks or intense social media exchanges.

One ongoing rivalry is between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, where subtle jabs have been exchanged over time, keeping fans intrigued. However, Lamar’s direct lyrics on “Like That” signaled a more direct confrontation with Drake, bringing tensions between the two artists to an all-time high.

As we look at the ongoing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, we also remember other famous hip-hop beefs that have shaped the genre.

The Notorious B.I.G. vs Tupac

Arguably the most iconic feud in hip-hop history, the rivalry between Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. captivated the world in the mid-1990s. What began as a friendship soured into a bitter rivalry, fueled by diss tracks, interviews, and personal animosity. Tragically, both Tupac and Biggie were murdered in drive-by shootings, leaving their feud unresolved and their legacies forever intertwined.

Jay-Z vs. Nas

In the early 2000s, Nas and Jay-Z engaged in a lyrical battle that became the stuff of legend. The feud reached its peak with the release of Jay-Z’s “Takeover” and Nas’s response, “Ether,” both regarded as classic diss tracks. The rivalry showcased two of the greatest lyricists in hip-hop history, and although they eventually made peace, their feud remains etched in rap lore.

Drake vs. Meek Mill

In 2015, Drake and Meek Mill ignited a modern-day rap feud in real-time on social media and through diss tracks. It all started when Meek accused Drake of using ghostwriters, prompting Drake to respond with the scathing diss track “Back to Back.” The feud captivated the hip-hop community and solidified Drake’s reputation as one of the genre’s most formidable figures.

50 Cent vs. Ja Rule

The feud between 50 Cent and Ja Rule was one of hip-hop’s most heated and personal conflicts. Stemming from disputes between their respective record labels, G-Unit and Murder Inc., the feud escalated with diss tracks, public confrontations, and even violence. Although the rivalry has since cooled down, the animosity between 50 Cent and Ja Rule remains palpable.

Remy Ma vs. Nicki Minaj

The rap beef between Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj was one of the most intense conflicts in hip-hop history. It all started when Remy Ma released “Shether,” a scathing diss track aimed at Nicki, accusing her of betrayals and shortcomings. Nicki responded with “No Frauds,” but Remy Ma’s powerful delivery and biting lyrics cemented her as a formidable opponent in the eyes of many fans. Their rap beef eventually subsided after intense exchanges and diss tracks.

These are just a few rap beefs that have grabbed hip-hop’s attention over the years. While some have ended peacefully, others still linger, showing the competitive nature of the genre. As hip-hop changes, one thing stays true: rap beefs are here to stay.
