The Bellagio fountains, the iconic landmark unique to Las Vegas, are known all around the world. On Friday, a man drowned after jumping in for a swim.
When the man, believed to be in his 40s, began struggling, a bystander jumped into the water in an effort to save him. However, the bystander had to return to safety once he realized he could not save the man. Immediately after, Kayla Eklund, a 21-year-old tourist, called 911.
Police and firefighters hurried to the scene. Divers were sent to recover the body.
Police Captain, Dori Koren said that “the man appeared to be from the local area, perhaps, homeless.” Before entering the water, he had been talking and mingling with tourists.
