A homeless Washington, DC, man has been told to self-quarantine after feeling sick and being tested for coronavirus.
Steven Devald told ABC7 he was feeling sick for two weeks when he went to the hospital Sunday after he feared he contracted coronavirus.
After taking the test, he was told to self-quarantine for four days until the results came in.
But being homeless, Devald had nowhere to go.
“My hospital orders are to self-quarantine,” Devald told ABC7. “But I’m homeless, and I have no place to go. I have no money. I can’t go to work because my boss doesn’t want me to come to work right now because I do delivery.”
He went to a homeless shelter where he slept in the same area as 180 other men. He then went to a clinic Monday morning, where he asked for help to find a place he could quarantine himself.
After ABC7 took his case to DC’s Human Services department, Devald said that the Department of Human Services said they were sending a van to pick him up to bring him to a place where he could isolate. This situation has reportedly been resolved, for now.
