When you have goals that you are trying to accomplish, you will do whatever it takes to ensure that those goals are met. Fred Barley, who is only 19 years old, has proven that nothing will stand in his way. Over the weekend, officers found Fred sleeping in a tent outside of Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia.Â
Fred Barley told the officers he rode his little brother’s bike six hours from Conyers to Barnesville, to register for classes for his second semester of college. He had two duffel bags carrying all he owned, and 2 gallons of water as he rode through the Georgia summer heat. Problem is, the Gordon State College campus dorms don’t open until August, so Barley pitched a tent in some bushes on campus and prepared to spend the next few weeks there, with nothing more than a box of cereal to eat.
The police officer told the Barley, ” We can’t allow you to stay here, but I have somewhere you can stay,”  and then took Barley to a local motel, paying for the next two nights. Casey Blaney and the motel owner paid for him to stay in his room until he can get into the dorms.
Debbie Adamson, who is the owner of a local pizzeria, saw Barley’s story and wanted to help. Without even meeting Fred Barley, the owner created a position for him and plans to keep him employed and eventually teach him to cook the pizza while working around his school schedule. So many people have stepped in to help the college student by providing him with clothing, school supplies, shoes, and a new bike.Â
It is good to know that there are still good people out there will help others out that are in struggling situation. The school was made aware of the situation and is allowing Fred Barley to move into the dorms early.Â
