In a horrifying display of brutality, newly released footage captures the fatal prison beating of Robert Brooks at New York’s Marcy Correctional Facility. Shockingly, several officers were executing the attack.

The video, unveiled Friday by the state attorney general, shows correctional officers relentlessly assaulting the 43-year-old man as he sits handcuffed, helpless to defend himself. Officers are seen punching Brooks repeatedly, striking him with a shoe, and even lifting him by the neck only to drop him back onto a medical examination table.
“This senseless killing is outrageous and horrifying,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared. Thirteen correctional officers and a nurse implicated in the incident are facing termination.
Equally chilling is the revelation that body cameras worn by the officers were not activated, leaving the public with only silent, blood-chilling visuals of Brooks being stripped and left motionless on his back. Attorney General Letitia James warned, “These videos are shocking and disturbing,” urging caution to viewers.
Preliminary medical findings suggest asphyxia caused by neck compression, raising the grim possibility of a calculated act. A lawyer for Brooks’ family condemned the footage.
“Mr. Brooks was fatally, violently beaten by a group of officers whose job was to keep him safe,” they stated.
The attack, described by advocacy groups as “sickening and appalling,” has intensified calls for systemic reform.
“This grotesque display of inhumanity is utterly appalling,” said Tina Luongo of The Legal Aid Society, while others denounced the culture of impunity within the prison system.
