Ebro Darden, who’s best known for his role as the host of “Ebro In The Morning” on Hot 97, has been named the Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B at Apple Music, as announced via Billboard.
In his new role, Darden will be managing a group of hip-hop and R&B writers and concentrating on editorial plans for content that will be released.
“Having dedicated his life and career to hip-hop, R&B, and pop music, he has so much to offer,” Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s global director of editorial, said about Darden’s new title. “One of Ebro’s most defining characteristics is that he has great ears for where R&B and hip-hop are transcending and evolving to beyond even the borders of the U.S.”
Darden said his new position is aimed globally to represent ways to satisfy the communities where hip-hop and R&B music is created.
“I’ll be wherever R&B and hip-hop are being consumed and working to create communication amongst communities around the world through Apple Music—making sure that black music is getting recognized and developing the next superstars,” Ebro told Billboard on Wednesday when giving an insight of his global objectives.
Ebro originally joined Apple Music back in 2015 as a host for the company’s Beats 1 global live stream beside Zane Lowe and Julie Adenuga, while launching his own show on the streaming service.
Darden will stay placed in New York and will carry on hosting his well-known show, “Ebro In The Morning” on Hot 97 weekly. He will continue to display the latest in hip-hop news and music on Beats 1 on weekday afternoons.
