House Passes Biden’s $1.9 Trillion Covid Relief Package

The House of Representatives voted to approve President Biden’s $1.9 trillion pandemic aid package earlier this morning.

According to CNN, this is a major step toward enacting the first legislative priority of Biden’s administration. The American Rescue Plan Act was narrowly passed 219-212, despite Republican opposition and accusations of waste in the “emergency” package.

Not one Republican voted for the bill, and two Democrats, Jared Golden of Maine and Kurt Schrader of Oregon, voted against the measure, which would give $1,400 stimulus checks to adults earning less than $75,000 a year.

The bill includes smaller checks for higher earners and nothing for people who make more than $100,000 a year. The bill also authorizes an extra $1,400 for each dependent child and a $3,600 annual tax credit per child under age 6 and $3,000 per child up to age 17.

Those funds are phased out for any earners over $75,000 or joint filers who make more than $150,000.
