A teacher at Klein Collins High in Houston was fired and now faces a year in prison for showing a porno on a projector during class.
Kevin Welchel was allegedly watching porn on a laptop when the video suddenly appeared on the projector.
The district’s spokesperson Justin Elbert said, “The individual was immediately removed and is no longer employed by the district.”
He said, “The district does not tolerate such completely unacceptable conduct.”
Welchel has been criminally charged with “display of harmful material to a minor,” which means he could face up to a year in jail and receive a fine of up to $4,000.
The district promised that “all appropriate legal action will be taken to the fullest extent of the law.”
One parent told Click2Houston that the scandal was “very inappropriate” and “very, very unprofessional,” while another said she was saddened that Welchel was let go.
“He was an excellent teacher and our children loved him,” one of the moms told the outlet. “It’s really unfortunate that this happened.”
