A Houston man has received three capital murder charges after being accused of killing three family members.
This past Thursday, 28-year-old Xavier Davis was arrested in an unrelated family violence charge, ABC 13 reports. The man is accused of shooting a family of three, including Harmony Carhee, 6, and her parents, Donyavia Lagway and Gregory Carhee. The news outlet reports the shootings took place at the family’s Fondren Road apartment Wednesday night. Davis is also accused of shooting Harmony’s 10-year-old sister. The girl survived by playing dead during the shooting and called her grandmother on FaceTime after.
“She was strong. She was hurt. But my baby came out of nowhere, from whatever way she had, to make stuff happen,” said the girl’s grandmother Manda Lagway. “I just want everyone to know my baby is a hero. My baby is a hero.”
The girl is still recovering from her injuries after being released from the hospital on Friday. She told police Davis was the man who came into her family’s home before the shooting started. She went on to explain that Davis came into the home, grabbed her 1-year-old baby brother by the hair, and threw him. The alleged killed then shot the three victims in the head. Another one of her siblings, a brother, was staying at his uncle’s house the night of the shooting, ABC 13 reports.
“Their lives have been permanently changed,” said Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. “I just want to extend my condolences and prayers to these families whose lives have been changed in the last 48 hours.”
