Houston Texans running back Darius Anderson is facing serious charges after allegedly breaking into a woman’s home.
The incident took place on Friday in Houston. According to the victim, Anderson’s ex-girlfriend returned home from getting coffee at around 7 a.m. and spotted Anderson’s vehicle in front of her garage. The woman did not get out of her car. Instead, she drove around for nearly 15 minutes before returning to see if Anderson had left. Seeing that he was still at her home, she exited her car, and Anderson did the same. She claims he then forced his way inside and tried to assault her. He initially refused to leave but fled the residence when she locked herself in the bathroom and called 911. The victim told police that Anderson had been staying with her despite breaking up two months ago. However, she said the 24-year-old did not have a key. The victim also claimed the football pro struck her in the past, but she didn’t report the abuse.
Initially, Anderson was charged with burglary with intent to rape. However, police say he was incorrectly charged due to a “coding error.” His charges have since been updated to felony burglary of a habitation. He is due in court on Wednesday.
The Texans remain tightlipped about the incident, saying only that they were aware of the incident and “gathering information.”
Anderson has denied all allegations. His lawyer, Kelly Benavides, maintains that her client is innocent and is ready to “clear his name.”
Anderson was a standout football player at Texas Christian University. He transitioned to the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020.
