Generations ago, our ancestors put their lives on the line so that they could learn to read. Generations later, n*ggas are making a mockery of their efforts. I say “n*ggas” because this is directed to those people. The black people who refuse to do better and are content with being idiots. Allow me to explain.
I come from a generation not like this one. When I was in school, I would ask my teacher a question and do you know what her response would be? “Look it up!” … That’s right, the woman who was getting paid to fill my brain with knowledge would rather me educate myself than do what she’s paid to do — tell me the damn answers. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized that it was the best thing my teachers could have ever done. Not only did it teach me how to research and how to not believe everything I’m told, it taught me that I am my own gatekeeper and only I am keeping myself from knowledge.
Fast forward to now, we have urban satire sites like CreamBMP, Huzlers, NahaDaily, etc who like all blogs, get paid for hits. The difference between these blogs and many others is that they purposely post false information on their site. Not only is it false, it’s unbelievably false, like impossible to believe. Taking a page from the success of TheOnion.com (non-urban satire site), the sites post ridiculous stories for clicks. And you know what? You can’t blame them because It works! You can’t even be mad at these sites because they post clear as day on the bottom of the page or in their Disclaimer section that they are a satire site and that the stories are not real, but instead of bothering to click one more time, what do “n*ggas” do? Share the post on Facebook and as “is this real?” How many times do they do this, you ask? Every time. Every single time. Rather than use their God given right to Google, or read the disclaimer, they would rather share the misinformation first and ask later.Â
Then you have the people who refuse to read, even things are given to them in plain sight. For example, Baller Alert posts our blogs on Instagram and never is there a day where someone does not read the complete blog on the SITE before jumping to a conclusion. If they bothered to even read the second paragraph they would see it said “read the entire blog on balleralert.com”, and if they read the entire blog (all one or two paragraphs left) they would see that maybe their point was addressed. Do you read one page in a book before you decide what it’s about or do you turn the page? This generation doesn’t read past the table of contents and frankly it’s sad. The saying used to be “If you want to hide something from black people, put it in a book” but apparently you can put it on a blog site and they miss it just as well. Words aren’t invisible, guys. Most our posts aren’t even THIS lengthy. Rather than complain about something you neglected to read, try doing yourself the service of actually clicking the link and seeing what it says for yourself.Â
This generation is not only a microwavable one, but a spoon-fed one. Rather than “hassle” themselves with a Google search, they want information to be given to them. Call me crazy but I have trust issues (and issues with being embarrassed). Before asking someone something, I look it up. Why? Because I don’t trust what a stranger tells me to be right. I’d rather see with my own eyes, through my own research. I remember having a discussion with someone on social media. They asked who someone in a picture was and after 24 hours of no one answering, they asked again…and again. Now, in 24 hours, wouldn’t it had been easier to just look it up? Not for this person. In fact they simply said they didn’t want to look it up, even though they have been itching to know who the person was for 24 hours. They said “you seem to know, just tell me” and so I told them the person was a bank robber. Obviously she didn’t believe me, but why not? It’s not like she looked it up herself to verify. After hours of back and forth she finally Googled and found out who the person was (The person had a wikipedia page, but unfortunately she only read the first two sentences of it *face palm*)
I can’t blame laziness entirely on social media because there are plenty of people who avidly use social media and still manage to conjure up enough common sense to not fall victim to satire sites, or at least research things before they believe it.Â
