I’m literally writing this story as I eat a ten-piece wings meal—all flat, extra crispy, and extra wet, of course—and I’m not saying it’s right, but if you live in Atlanta, then you know how much we love wings here. So it may not be surprising to some that someone stole hundreds of dollars worth of chicken wings from an Atlanta sports bar.
Mike Wilson is the owner of Ideal Sports Bar and said someone broke into his restaurant on Friday and stole hundreds of dollars worth of chicken wings.
“Everyone says well they just stole some wings, but wings are so expensive now,” said Wilson. “A case of wings I used to buy $30-40 a case. Now they’re about $180.”
The sticky hand criminal broke in through a side door of the eatery around 6 a.m. and walked out with five boxes that were filled with 40 pounds of wings a piece,
Wilson estimated a loss of about $800, and expense, when times are extra hard as a new Consumer Price Index report, shows chicken parts went up 11.6% last month compared to last January, CBS46 News reported.
“I’ve raised my prices – not because of the break-in, just because of the cost of wings. We’ve gone up $2,” said Wilson. “Fourteen dollars for 10 wings. I know it sounds ridiculous, but we’re not making much off it at that price.”
The wings weren’t the only thing the thief stole. They also stole a lawnmower, power washer, and several bottles of liquor and damaged several entry points, which is another expense that has cost Wilson hundreds of more dollars.
This is the bar’s second burglary within two weeks. Security surveillance from the week before shows a man kicking in the front door before taking off with part of a cash register. The bar’s video is grainy, but luckily the gas station next door captured the same man walking in moments later because he walked in the store wearing the same jacket, shoes, and mask around his neck.
Wilson has now installed more locks and put in better quality cameras at the location. He is also working with another business in the area to provide better surveillance for the property.
Atlanta police are continuing their search for the person responsible.
