A major weather threat is developing across the Southwest as the remnants of former Hurricane Priscilla merge with another storm system, sending waves of tropical moisture into some of the driest land in the country.
The Weather Prediction Center warns that this pattern could unleash a month’s worth of rain within just a few days. Flood alerts stretch from central Arizona to parts of New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado, where flash flooding, road closures, and debris flows are likely.
Phoenix and Flagstaff sit in the bull’s-eye of this system, with the potential to receive two to four inches of rain by Saturday. That’s enough to trigger life-threatening floods in deserts, canyons, and wildfire burn scars.
Meteorologists say another tropical system could follow next week, keeping flood risks elevated across the region. Residents are urged to stay alert, avoid flooded roads, and prepare for possible evacuations if conditions worsen.
