On Friday, a Hawaiian influencer was shot and killed by her estranged husband in front of their 11-year-old daughter before taking his own life.
Police say that Theresa Cachuela, 33, was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Jason Cachuela, 44, during an outing with their daughter. The incident occurred at a shopping center in Honolulu as Theresa and her 11-year-old were on their way to the bank.Â
According to TMZ, Theresa, who had about 20,000 followers on Instagram, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the tragic incident, Jason was found dead at a residence, prompting a police investigation into what appears to be a murder-suicide.
Weeks before the shooting, Theresa reportedly obtained a temporary restraining order against Jason due to his alleged threat of self-harm with a knife in the presence of their daughter. They later agreed on a 1-year protection order, stipulating that Jason surrender his weapons as part of the deal.Â
According to reports, her family initiated a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses, and the campaign has garnered over $38,000 in support.
“She was coming to have breakfast with me that morning because I wanted to give her and my grandkids their Christmas gifts,” Theresa’s mother wrote in the GoFundMe description. “My daughter did not deserve this. She was trying so hard to get help, but the Justice system failed her. We are so devastated with the loss of our beloved Tita.”
