On Wednesday, the Trump 2020 Campaign thanked rapper Ice Cube for working with Trump on his “Platinum Plan” for Black Americans. However, some of his fans weren’t here for that, and the rapper had to defend himself against the attacks on social media.
“Facts: I put out the Contract with Black America,” Cube said on Twitter, adding, “both parties contacted me. Dems said we’ll address the CWBA after the election. Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA.”
The rapper started to receive the backlash after Trump’s 2020 advisor, Katrina Pierson, tweeted, “Shoutout to @icecube for his willingness to step up and work with @realDonaldTrump Administration to help develop the #PlatinumPlan…Leaders gonna lead, haters gonna hate. Thank you for leading!”
In response, commentator Bakari Sellers said that Cube “fell for something shiny” with the Trump campaign. “Biden has a black agenda & a racial equity agenda,” He said, adding, “he has a black female VP who will help oversee COVID recovery for a virus which from a health & economic POV devastated black communities. He will appoint a black woman to the SCOTUS.”
Many critics felt that Ice Cube’s decision to work with the Trump campaign seemed a bit far fetched from his N.W.A. days. But, with great risk comes great reward, and Cube believes that’s the only way black Americans will see change.
“Every side is the Darkside for us here in America,” Cube said in response to a fan. “They’re all the same until something changes for us. They all lie, and they all cheat, but we can’t afford not to negotiate with whoever is in power, or our condition in this country will never change. Our justice is bipartisan.”
