Ice Cube Offers Caitlin Clark $5 Million To Join The Big3 League

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark has made history and broken many records this season as she prepares for the sweet sixteen this weekend, facing off against the Lady Buffaloes of Colorado on Saturday. She has the chance to make history once again if she accepts a deal Ice Cube and his basketball league, the Big3, has offered her while still being able to play in the WNBA.

Clark has been offered a deal worth $5 million to play in eight regular season games and possibly two playoff games. She would receive $500,000 per game to play in a half-court setting. Additionally, she may receive substantial compensation for endorsements and merchandise. This is an incredible offer, and Ice Cube has publicly praised Clark, stating that she is worth every penny. He also mentioned the success of other women in the Big 3, specifically in coaching.

“The skeptics laughed when we made Nancy Liberman the first female coach of a men’s pro team, and she won the championship in her first year,” the Big 3 Owner tweeted this morning. “Then Lisa Leslie won it all in year two. With our offer, Caitlin Clark can make history and break down even more barriers for women athletes.”

Clark would undeniably make history by signing the most lucrative deal for a female basketball player if she accepts the deal for the Big 3. Once the NCAA Tournament is over,  more clarity will likely be provided. Ice Cube mentioned that he intended for the offer to remain, so this was not seen as a distraction as Clark plays for the NCAA championship.

This is a very enticing offer and a very smart chess move by the Big 3 as they continue to strive and find their place within the professional basketball space, with no support from the NBA.

It remains to be seen if Caitlin will face any objections from the WNBA for participating in the Big 3 league. However, they are not paying the same amount. Both seasons will occur during the summer, so that scheduling will be interesting. The Big 3 would have to bend, not break, potentially on their scheduling depending on how her WNBA schedule aligns, IF she signs the deal.
