Fans have been eagerly waiting for a new Friday movie, but Ice Cube recently dropped a bombshell.

During his appearance on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, Cube revealed that Hollywood execs rejected his script for the next installment.

“I know what it needs to be, and they don’t,” Ice Cube said. He explained that for years, a studio head named Toby Emmerich blocked the movie. Ice Cube even wrote a script, but the execs didn’t like it, adding that they didn’t understand his vision.

He wanted to bring Chris Tucker back and explore a plot about jail, but the execs weren’t having it. “They were like, ‘Jail’s not funny. How can you make jail funny?’” Cube explained. “I’m like, ‘Y’all don’t know what the f**k y’all talking about.’ Then they come out with Orange Is The New Black, Let’s Go To Prison—all these movies about jail.”

Cam Newton asked why Cube didn’t just take the project to another studio. Cube responded, “It’s not that simple. We did the movie through New Line, and they attached to all the sequels. Has to come out through New Line.”

Looks like fans will have to keep waiting for that next Friday movie for now.
