A viral Instagram post last week claimed that ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) was offering $750 for each undocumented immigrant reported through its tip line.
The post racked up over 8,000 likes in just three days and spread quickly across other social media platforms.
But, ICE isn’t handing out cash for tips.
While ICE does have an anonymous tip form and hotline (866-DHS-2-ICE), the agency confirmed that no rewards are being offered for civil immigration enforcement tips.
A spokesperson told USA TODAY, “ICE does not offer rewards for tips in support of civil immigration enforcement objectives.”
The claim is false. If you see posts like this, don’t believe the hype.
