Ice Spice reignited her feud with Latto in her new single “Gimme a Light,” which was released on Friday (May 10). On this track, which samples Sean Paul, the Bronx rapper subtly throws shade at her rival.
“And no, I don’t got any opps/Like why would I beef with a flop?” she rapped, taking a swipe at Latto.
Earlier in the year, Ice Spice aimed barbs at Latto with her January release, “Think U the S### (Fart).” She later confirmed in February that the track was indeed a diss aimed at the Capitol Records artist.
Discussing the origin of the beef on Twitter Spaces, Ice Spice expressed her surprise at finding herself mentioned in one of Latto’s snippets: “The thing is for me is why am I seeing that I’m in the back of your weak ass snippet?” she said. “So, I was like, ‘Wait a second, that’s me?’ So I’m like, ‘Okay, since we’re talking about me, let’s talk about me.’ And I dropped that. It was really just a snippet … I was like, ‘This has to be fake. This is AI.’ But b###### be bold, so I was like, ‘Oh, we’re being bold today.’”
The controversy stemmed from a preview of Latto’s track “Sunday Service,” where a TikTok clip showed an Ice Spice video playing in the background while the lyrics “I just want a one-on-one, don’t know why she so nervous” played. Ice Spice took this as a direct jab at her. Although Latto later claimed the video’s inclusion was unintentional and she was unaware of “Think U the S### (Fart)” being about her until the Twitter Spaces conversation, she declared she wasn’t “running from no smoke.”
In response, Latto targeted Ice Spice directly in the full version of “Sunday Service,” rapping, “Think I’m the s###? B####, I know it, hoe/Jesus walked on water, I got Ice boiling though.”
“Gimme a Light” serves as the lead single from Ice Spice’s upcoming debut album titled Y2K, for which a release date has yet to be announced.
