Idris Elba recently shared his thoughts about people who feel a black man shouldn’t play James Bond and revealed he would absolutely take the role if offered.

In an interview with Vanity fair, the “sexiest man alive” discussed everything from his new wife, Sabrina, his career and his future ambitions.

Towards the end of the interview, talk turned to “James Bond,” and whether or not, fans will ever get their wish to see Elba take on the iconic agent 007.

Idris admitted it’s not his favorite thing to discuss with people. However, he did say he would love to play Bond but revealed nobody has ever officially offered him the role.

“Of course, if someone said to me, ‘Do you want to play James Bond?’ I’d be like, Yeah! That’s fascinating to me. But it’s not something I’ve expressed, like, Yeah, I wanna be the black James Bond,” Elba said.

There have been whispers about Elba being a great fit for the role and haters have also tried to argue Bond can’t be a black man. In response, Elba opened up by saying, “You just get disheartened, when you get people from a generational point of view going, ‘It can’t be.’ And it really turns out to be the color of my skin. And then if I get it and it didn’t work, or it did work, would it be because of the color of my skin? That’s a difficult position to put myself into when I don’t need to.”

Instead, Idris is focused on his beautiful new wife Sabrina, and his upcoming role in the “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” blockbuster with The Rock opening this August.
