Girl group Danity Kane was formed in 2005 thanks to the MTV hit music competition series, “Making The Band.” Viewers witnessed their tumultuous creation and rise to fame on the show as they clashed with their management and worked to find balance among them. The original members of the group consisted of Aubrey O’Day, Dawn Richard, Shannon Bex, Wanita “D. Woods” Woodgett, and Aundrea Fimbres. Watching the women record their album was certainly fun to witness, but once the self-titled finished product was unveiled to the world on August 22nd, 2006, Danity Kane showed the world they were much more than a manufactured act.
The album skyrocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, moving over 90,000 copies on the first day of release. Two years later, their sophomore project, “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” was released on March 18th, 2008, and also topped the Billboard 200, selling over 236,000 copies within its first week. Sadly, during a January 2009 interview with MTV, Richard revealed that the group had broken up. They attempted a reconciliation over the years, though things were never quite the same. While we may never get another Danity Kane project, the hits they gave us can never be denied.
