Last week, Timya Andrews was found lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head when police arrived at her East Chicago, Indiana home. On Wednesday, the 8-year-old died at Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
As Timya was sitting inside her living room doing homework on Oct. 22, around 10 p.m., 16 shots were fired from an automatic weapon. One bullet “went through the walls of Timya’s home and struck her in the head,” People wrote.
It is unknown who shot the rounds, but officials did say a male relative of the girl was shot a week prior. He did not say whether or not the shootings are related.
Timya’s death has been ruled a homicide, and it’s been concluded that she was not the intended target.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people involved.
The Andrews family had recently moved to Indiana from Chicago to escape gun violence.
