A Wolcott, IN mother accused of injecting sons’ IV bag with fecal matter, will spend 7 years in prison and serve 5 years probation following her prison sentence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tiffany Alberts was arrested in 2016 after she used a syringe to inject her son’s IV while he was in Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis undergoing cancer treatments, according to CNN.
Alberts claims that she did it to get her son moved from ICU to another unit in Riley because she believed the treatment would be better. The 15-year-old was receiving treatment for leukemia in August 2016, then released, and had to return to the hospital in September 2016 due to a fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.
When doctors ran blood tests, organisms were shown that are only found in feces, which caused a bacterial infection and sepsis. The hospital began to wonder if his IV was somehow contaminated, and after watching video surveillance, they saw the mother injecting something into his mainline.
Alberts told investigators that she was injecting water to flush the medication because it burned him. She later admitted to actually injecting her son’s own fecal matter, which she kept in a gift bag under a bathroom sink.
Tiffany Alberts was convicted of six counts of aggravated battery and one count of neglect in a trial in September 2019. Alberts was found not guilty of attempted murder, according to online court records.
