A viral video has sparked massive outrage in Indianapolis after an officer was caught on camera threatening to kill a 17-year-old Black driver. Trevion Taylor was driving away from an anti-ICE protest near Warren Central High School on February 6 when he noticed a police car following him.

His mother, Ambar Taylor, explained that while Trevion had already graduated, he went to the school to join friends participating in the walkout. The situation took a dark turn when he was pulled over at a gas station less than half a mile from the school.
As Trevion’s phone sat on the dashboard recording the encounter, an officer ordered him to step out, claiming “the car smells like weed.” When Trevion asked why he was being removed, an officer grabbed his wrist and pulled him from the car. In the heat of the moment, the officer shouted, “I will f**ing kill you. Do you understand me?” Trevion, visibly shaken, responded by saying, “Bro, what the f**k? You’re gonna kill me if I…” but the officer cut him off, claiming, “He’s f**king reaching – reaching for a gun, that’s why.” Despite the officer’s claims, Trevion remained compliant, saying, “Yes, sir. Yes, sir,” as he was led away in handcuffs.
IMPD released a statement explaining that officers were monitoring the protest because “It received information that students might have guns there.” They claim they saw a juvenile with a firearm enter the car and initiated the stop after Trevion failed to signal a lane change. While one passenger was taken into custody for gun possession, Trevion was not charged or even given a ticket.
Addressing the viral footage, the department noted that “While the video does not show the entire incident, some of the language heard does not reflect the standards or values of IMPD,” and confirmed that an internal review of the body-cam footage is underway.
However, the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police defended the officer’s tactics, calling the video “incomplete” and the death threat a “direct verbal warning in lieu of use of force.” Ambar Taylor is now calling for the officer to be fired and for the full footage to be released.
“He’s a young Black man. You’ve seen the news 100 times. My son will not be a victim,” she said. She remains firm that the officer’s behavior was inexcusable, telling IndyStar, “These are kids, and if you can’t de-escalate a situation with kids without going to those words first, you shouldn’t be a police officer.”
