Last month, a woman became the victim of an unusual crime after the suspect insisted that she follow him on Facebook before robbing her and making an unwanted romantic advance.
According to court documents, Amber Beraun, who was in Indianapolis, arrived home from work at 4 a.m. on May 8. She briefly went inside to feed her pets and then stepped outside to retrieve her mail.
Afterward, the suspect, Damien Boyce, approached the woman and robbed her. In an attempt to appease him, she handed over $100 in cash she had earned as tips from her job. While holding Beraun at gunpoint, Boyce asked about her relationship status and demanded that she add him as a Facebook friend so he could return the stolen money.
Beraun agreed to follow him on the platform after he gave her his name and Facebook profile.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Beraun and Boyce exchanged Facebook messages.
“Look just know imma pay you back ik it’s a [expletive] up way to meet but damn you was too pretty to rob,” Boyce wrote.
Beraun replied to his message writing, “I believe you man I can tell your sweet times just get rough I know that.”
Boyce continued sending the woman additional messages. “I feel like a total [expletive] I swear I got you wats ur cash app tagg.”
“Fr I’m shifty we had to meet up on them terms come chill with me I swear I’m not on that type of timing,” he wrote.
Eventually, Beraun informed Boyce that she had a boyfriend and wished him the best of luck.
Police discovered the Facebook messages while doing their investigation.
According to WTHR-TV in Indianapolis, Boyce was detained on a $7,500 bond after being charged with armed robbery and carrying a firearm as a felon last Wednesday.
