Instagram is continuing its push to make the app more entrepreneur-friendly by allowing users to pay for products and services in the DMs.
Shoppers scrolling through the app can now message a business account on Instagram and purchase goods being offered during their exchange. The transaction is made possible through Meta Pay, known initially as Facebook Pay. The element lets consumers track their orders and inquire about them from the private chat function.
The merchant may initiate a request for payment once a customer has decided to make a transaction. When a user clicks the “Pay” button, they are prompted to enter and confirm their shipping address and payment details. The feature will roll out in the U.S. first before being made available to overseas users.
Meta Payments even works for businesses who do not use Instagram Shops, the site’s in-app digital storefront. Since its launch in 2020, Shops has allowed companies to capitalize on social media traffic. Therefore, it would not be a bad idea for businesses to incorporate both Shops and Meta Pay to ensure monetization amongst their followers.
Meta Pay is just the latest feature that Instagram has implemented to help companies and creators succeed. Last year, IG allowed every account to add links in Story posts, a function that was once only available for certain business accounts. Ad space is also open to help entrepreneurs gain visibility.
