In September a new Instagram messaging feature was introduced called “vanish mode,” which has recently become available to most users this week.
It seems as though Instagram and Messenger are jumping on the latest trend, which Snapchat gained its huge popularity, by letting users send messages that disappear after they’ve been sent.
Facebook also introduced vanish mode on all of its apps, allowing people to have secret conversations with their friends.
The new vanish mode feature for Instagram DM’s allows its users to send messages to someone that disappear completely after a certain amount of time. It allows its users to send private messages to each other with no chat history, which means you can have a secret conversation without somebody else ever finding out.
With vanish mode, you can also send messages, GIFs, photos, and videos.
To use vanish mode on your phone you do the following:
- Open Instagram and head to the DMs section.
- Choose or create a DM thread with the person you want to message in vanish mode.
- Swipe up on the screen to enable vanish mode.
- The screen should now be black.
- Compose your message.
- Select ‘view once’, ‘allow replay’ or ‘keep in chat’.
If you enjoy the vanish mode feature on Instagram, you would be happy to know that you can use it on Facebook’s Messenger app as well.
It works in the same way and can be accessed by swiping up on an existing chat thread, if you want to return to the normal chat, all you have to do is swipe up again.
It looks like Instagram and Facebook will be adding more stress to people’s relationships in 2020.
