You may have noticed that Instagram has been very different lately. Some have complained of their algorithm being messed up, ads appearing everywhere, and some just sick and tired of watching reels. The Kardashians are the latest to critique the once well-known photo app.
And the CEO of Instagram decided to respond to all of the critiques and concerns, saying Instagram needs to “evolve” and that it looks like even more videos will be in the near future.
👋🏼 There’s a lot happening on Instagram right now.
I wanted to address a few things we’re working on to make Instagram a better experience.

If you didn’t know, the latest Instagram app pushes one thing: videos. And many have complained that the app has tried competing with Gen Z platform TikTok forcing creators to post videos just to get their engagement and reach up. The conversation has started the trend “Make Instagram Instagram again” and “Stop Trying to Be TikTok.”
Influencer and photographer Tati Bruening critiqued the platform and accused the app of trying to like TikTok, then added, “I just want to see cute photos of my friends.” That particular post got over two million likes and reposts from Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.
Instagram could be in trouble now as more users also noticed the two sisters have been using TikTok more lately and backing off the OG app amid all of the new changes. When Kylie Jenner announced in 2018 that she was logging off Snapchat for good, Snap Inc’s “shares fell 6.1 percent after Jenner’s tweet, erasing a whopping $1.3 billion in market value in one day,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mosseri decided to respond to the growing fears of Instagram by worrying users even more–he posted a video.
In the video, he addressed that what’s going on with Instagram is many tests right now.
In terms of photos, the CEO said, “I need to be honest — I do believe that more and more of Instagram is going to become video over time. We see this even if we change nothing.”
And people are still upset (respectively) as the comments under his video have sounded off on the changes to come.
ppl are watching more videos bc creators are making more videos bc your algorithm gives preference to videos bc it’s all ppl have to watch now, bc creators have to make more videos, and now all we have to watch are videos bc your algorithm… See how this works, friend?

So everyone complains about the shift to Tiktok-ish features to the point where you need to make this video, and y'all say you're going to continue pushing videos anyway??? pic.twitter.com/F3Pwl1xOpH
