An investigation has been launched after multiple voters reported their political affiliations being changed from Democrat to Republican without their consent.
The probe focuses on South Florida, where several voters were visited by supposed election officials who claimed to be updating voter registration. However, they were actually changing Democratic voters to the Republican party.
One woman named Maria snapped a photo of the woman who came to her home under the guise of voter registration. She wore an ID with a QR code linked to the Republican Party of Florida website and changed her affiliation without permission. Many senior Miami citizens reported similar instances.
“People are being taken advantage of,” said Sen. Annette Taddeo, who is vice-chair of the state’s Ethics and Elections Committee. “Lots of these people don’t speak English or are elderly.”
On Monday, Governor Ron DeSantis visited Miami amid the growing claims of party-swapping. He slammed the alleged “election shenanigans” and announced that a designated team would be deployed to investigate their authenticity.
The office of State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle has launched a hotline for victims to come forward if their political party was changed involuntarily.
