Investigation Reveals A Tampon Was Not Placed In Police Officer’s Starbucks Drink; LASD Finds No Malice

Last month a Los Angeles Police Officer accused a Starbuck’s employee of putting a tampon in his Frappuccino. Now, an investigation determined it wasn’t a tampon; it was a cleaning cloth.

According to TMZ, on June 19, the unidentified off-duty officer purchased his drink from a Starbucks located inside a Target in Diamond Bar, California. After drinking half of his drink, he later discovered a tampon floating inside. He then went back into the store to confront the staff and made a poisoning incident report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, KTLA News reports.

The officer believed the “credit card he paid with had significant features that would imply he was a police officer on the front of it,” the report stated. The officer also suspected it was a tampon and accused the employee of intentionally trying to poison him.

Authorities launched an investigation and pulled surveillance footage to help. However, video footage of the six-minute encounter between the officer and the employee had bad quality, and they were not able to determine if the drink had been tampered with. Authorities were also unable to prove the store employee acted maliciously.

“Based on the evidence available at this time, the item in the drink was possibly a cleaning type cloth commonly used by store employees,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.
