It’s a sad day in America when someone steals from charity, especially when the charity grants the wishes to children with cancer and other serious illnesses.
Well, Jennifer Woodley, 40, may go down in the book of most trifling thieves after she was accused of and admitting to embezzling $41,000 from the Make-A-Wish foundation.
According to PEOPLE, Woodley has two children and plead guilty to two felony counts of first-degree theft and one felony count of fraudulent practices.
In 2019, she became the CEO and president of the foundation in Iowa. She also admitted to giving herself an unapproved bonus and raised her salary. She’s also said she charged the foundation’s credit card for her own personal use without proper authorization. To cover her tracks, she made false entries into the organization’s records for the items purchased, the Associated Press stated.
Woodley’s family had been a foundation recipient and was given a trip to Walt Disney World long before she became the CEO.
Prosecutors will ask a judge to give her five years of probation and make her pay back the money she took.
She will appear in court again on July 20.
