Iran’s President has issued a warning that the U.S. has made a ‘grave mistake’ by killing the nation’s General, Qassem Soleimani, in an airstrike this week. President Rouhan also vowed the U.S. will face consequences for years to come.
During a visit to the general’s home, one of Soleimani’s daughter’s asked President Hassan Rhouani for revenge, according to Daily Mail. “Who is going to avenge my father’s blood?” she asked, to which Rhouani responded with the promise that “everyone will take revenge” and “we will, we will avenge his blood , you don’t worry.”
President Rhouani continued, “The Americans did not realize what a grave mistake they have made. They will suffer the consequences of such criminal measure not only today, but also throughout the years to come. This crime committed by the US will go down in history as one of their unforgettable crimes against the Iranian nation.”
General Soleimani, 62, was killed early Friday morning outside of Baghdad’s International Airport in an airstrike ordered by newly-impeached U.S. President Donald Trump.
Following the attack, Trump stated that he ordered the attack on Soleimani to prevent war, adding that the commander was plotting ‘imminent and sinister’ attacks against Americans. “We took action last night to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war,” Trump said in brief remarks on Friday.
Rouhani said Iran has the right to seek revenge and that retaliation will come once the “dirty hands of the US” are removed from the region. The latest conflict between the U.S. and Iran started a week ago after an American contractor was killed in a rocket attack while working at an Iraqi military base. The U.S. retaliated by launching an attack on five Mobilization militia bases in Iraq and Syria, killing more than 24 people and initiating an almost two-day siege of the United States Embassy in Baghdad.
