Attention new parents: If you gave birth to a child born in 2021, you might be owed $1,400 by the Internal Revenue Service.
The agency announced in a news release explaining that the third round of stimulus checks that went out to eligible individuals in 2021 had their amounts calculated based on the number of dependents they claimed on their 2019 or 2020 tax returns.
So if you had a child in 2021, your third stimulus check might not have included that new child as a qualifying dependent.
This isn’t just limited to parents of newborn children; it includes anyone who added a new dependent in 2021, such as a parent or grandchild. If you think you qualify, check with the IRS, you could be owed additional stimulus money.
