The Government Shutdown isn’t only affecting government employees, but will possibly affect taxpayers.
According to WCPO Cincinnati, if the shutdown continues through tax filing season, early filers will not receive their returns right away.
During the shutdown, the IRS will process returns and accept payments. However, they will not process refunds or respond to any questions from taxpayers.
“Probably no surprise, they are still capable of taking your money, and they are still capable of processing returns that are being submitted,” Scott Moffit, president of Summit Financial Group told WCPO.
Taxpayers can file for an extension on their taxes, but if you owe, that money is still due by April 15.
