Irv Gotti Talks ‘Tales,’ Higher Education, Lil Nas X, Success and More: “The Goal In Life Is To Be Successful”

Ahead of the highly anticipated return of BET’s “Tales,” Irv Gotti, the creator, and mastermind behind the anthology series, opened up with Baller Alert about what’s to come. In fact, upon the premiere of the brand new season, Gotti said fans can expect a brand new song from Yeezus, himself.

“The first thing they can expect is I got a brand new record from Kanye West featuring Charlie Wilson, called ‘Brothers,’” Gotti said, as he revealed how the idea came to fruition. “I went to ‘Ye and asked him. I just had a conversation with him; I told him I wanted to do something special for the culture. I love the hip hop culture, so I’m always trying to think of ways to push it forward and do things that’s never before been done, and he fucked with me.”

From there, Gotti opened up about his illustrious career, and one missed opportunity to sign Rick Ross.

“I tried to sign Rick Ross, but Jay-Z…you know, once he flew to New York and got in that Maybach with Jay and I think went to dinner with Jay and Bey, I knew I didn’t stand a fucking chance,” Gotti said.

As the super producer continued, he expressed his thoughts on the idea of higher education and whether or not it’s needed in this generation.

“College is if you want to be a doctor, if you want to be a lawyer, if you want to be something in a profession where college is needed, yeah go to college,” Gotti said. “But if you’re a kid and you don’t know what you want to do or you want to be an engineer in the music business, just go to the studio and perfect your craft. Get active like that.”

“I just want to be successful,” Gotti added. “The goal in life isn’t to go to college; the goal in life is to be successful. I just want to be successful. How I get there is how I get there,  if I needed college to get there, I woulda went. I make music, I’m in the entertainment business, I ain’t need it.”

As for Gotti’s future projects, the producer revealed there are movies on the way, a Murder Inc. television series and more, before he shared his thoughts on Lil Nas X’s sexuality, adding that “No one cares, be whoever you are.”
