Floyd Mayweather received his 48th straight win last night over Manny Pacquiao. He’s a world champion in two weight classes holding 3 belts at 147 pounds & 2 at 154 pounds. He’s been a world champion in 5 different weight classes but according to ESPN, he has now decided that it is time to give other fighters a chance.
Mayweather after his fight stated, “I’m a world champion in two different weight classes. It’s time to let other fighters fight for the belt.” He was schedule for one more fight in September & previously stated that he planned on fighting it. If he does retire before this fight that will leave him undefeated at 48 which is one less than Rocky Marciano who was able to gain a 49-0 record.
An official announcement will be coming soon as Mayweather says, “I don’t know if it will be Monday or maybe a couple weeks.” Floyd Mayweather already believes he’s pound for pound the best so it’s only right that ends his career after unanimously winning what some would consider the biggest fight of his career. Stay tuned for more info to come.
