Say it ain’t so….the terrorists are after Pac Man!
According to the President of the Philippines, the Islamist terrorist group, Abu Sayyaf, was plotting to kidnap Manny Pacquiao and his family before their plans were discovered earlier this week.
Abu Sayyaf is a militant group that is fighting for independence in a southern province of the Philippines. They were responsible for the Philippines’ most deadly terrorist attack back in 2004, which killed 116 people, and most recently, they beheaded a Canadian hostage this week after not receiving the ransom money that was requested.
On Wednesday, President Benigno Aquino III revealed that Abu Sayyaf had plans to bomb Manila and possibly even assassinate the president. World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who also sits on the Philippine House of Representatives and is running for Senate, became the target of the terrorist group in hopes that they could use him as leverage for the government to release their cohorts.
“I was alarmed when he announced the Abu Sayyaf wanted to kidnap me,” Pacquiao said. “I’m surprised because all Filipinos are my friends. I love them, especially the Muslims.” He has since beefed up security for his wife and children, but says he will continue on his campaign trail as he tries to get elected to the Philippine Senate. “I live my life like every day is the last so I have no fear. God is with me.”
