Monday night, #IssaRae hosted the CFDA Awards, where the international fashion community joins together to “honor the best and brightest in American design.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At this year’s ceremony, the Council of Fashion Designers of American, Inc. awarded its first-ever Influencer Award to reality superstar, Kim Kardashian, for completely changing “the meaning of influencer in the digital age.”
Despite Kardashian’s presence though, the host did not shy away from mocking her husband for his controversial comments on slavery.
“I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black. Only when it’s convenient,” Rae said, according to USA Today, as part of her monologue to start the show. “That joke was my choice, just like slavery.”

However, that wasn’t the only thing Rae made headlines for throughout the night. In fact, the “Insecure” writer and star walked the carpet in a custom Pyer Moss blue gown, which featured over 180,000 Swarovski crystals and the words “Every N***** Is a Star” on her belt. Rae was also the first person of color to host the awards show, and many praised her for her bold carpet look.
