It’s another win for Issa Rae. HBO Max has ordered eight episodes of her new comedy series “Rap Sh*t.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the half-hour episodes will be based on two estranged high school friends from Miami who reunite to form a rap group.
Rae will be the mastermind behind the pen, and Syreeta Singleton of Insecure and Central Park will be the showrunner. Both will be executive producers alongside HOORAE’s Montrel McKay, Jonathan Berry, and Dave Becky.
City Girl’s Yung Miami and JT will act as co-executive producers. Sara Rastogi for HOORAE, and Kevin “Coach K” Lee, and Pierre “P” Thomas of Quality Control Films will also be named co-executive producers.
Raedio, Rae’s audio content company, will oversee the music for the series.
HBO recently announced that the fifth season of the hit show Insecure would be its last. Rae received an Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Series for the show’s most recent season.
Rae continues to strive in the industry; she’s the executive producer for two other HBO shows, “A Black Lady Sketch show” and the documentary “Seen and Heard.”
She is also making a TV adaption of the podcast “Nice White Parents” with Adam McKay and another show based on backyard wrestling with Dwayne Johnson.
