Issa Rae Set to Star as Spider-Woman in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Sequel

Issa Rae has been added to the “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” sequel cast as Spider-Woman.

Our favorite awkward Black girl is about to be our favorite neighborhood Spider-Woman as she’s just been cast in the movie to play Jessica Drew, who is the true identity behind the character’s mask. Rae will accompany actor Shameik Moore, who plays the main character Miles Morales, and Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Gwen).

This next installment will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson and will be produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Miller and Lord are also writers on the screenplay, along with David Callhaam, Variety reports.

Rae’s love for the comic book superhero dates back to her years as a child. “Since the third grade, I’ve loved Spider-Man, comic books, memorabilia, everything,” Rae Rold Variety back in February.

Rae has had a busy year. Her hit HBO series “Insecure” is saying its farewell with its fifth season, and she is executive producing Robin Thede’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show.” She’s also dropped her unscripted series “Sweet Life” on HBO Max, and she’s working on a number of other projects.

The sequel to “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” will hit screens on Oct. 7, 2022, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
