J. Cole and NBA Youngboy’s verbal sparing may not have been on your 2023 Bingo board. However, here we are.
Back in May, NBA YoungBoy dropped the single ‘F*ck The Industry,’ where he seemingly dissed multiple artists and he took a shot at Fayetteville native J Cole.
“J a ho, that n*gga played it cold like he was gon’ do a feature, so I texted the muscle sign, I swear it’s gon’ be nice to meet you,” Youngboy rapped in the first verse of the viral song.
Now it seems as if Cole found the time to respond with a verse of his own, arguably his best of the year on Lil Yachty’s ‘The Secret Recipe.’
Cole raps, “N*ggas making threats and I laugh, that’s ’cause you ain’t a threat… Don’t ask how I feel ’bout no rappers, s*** they okay, I guess… Incomin’ call, press the button, the one that say accept, he FaceTimed to ask for a feature and saw the face of death.”
“My paper stretch just like a Laker, before he break a sweat,” Cole rapped on The Recipe and that line seemingly sums this beef up perfectly.
These two are creating music for their fans in two different walks of life. Trying to continue to make money and be impactful within the community. Is it rap beef or just the competitive nature of the sport? Either way, it’s got fans from both sides going back and forth on social media.

After much discourse online, Cole’s manager took to X to address fans’ interpretations.
“I’m pretty sure this is [cap],” he said, responding to a post about the diss. “Not sure how y’all heard that cole verse and put that together, impressive.”
