Looks like Drake may really be the only one JT loves, after his new No. 1 record helped her experience a one in a lifetime opportunity ahead of her two-year stint behind bars.
The City Girls rapper, whose real name is Jatavia Johnson, checked herself into a Florida prison on June 29, the day of Drake’s “Scorpion,” release on charges connected to felony identity theft. According to reports, officials say the Miami-bred raptress used three different credit cards between September 2016 to April 2017, and swiped more than $1,000 in charges.
Initially, Johnson had been facing 10 years in prison, but struck a deal with prosecutors for a reduced sentence of 24 months. At the time, she had been ordered to turn herself in on the 25th of June, but a week before, her lawyer filed a motion to delay so that the Quality Control rapper could make a “once in a lifetime appearance” at the BET Awards on the 24th.

“Since the sentencing, the Defendant and her two-girl music group has experienced a meteoric rise in stardom,” the lawyer explained. “The Defendant now has over 3 million views on YouTube and they have over one million screams across various platforms. The Defendant is a star.”

In the request for a delay, Johnson’s lawyer asked for an additional 30 days, according to The Blast, explaining it to be “due to a recent cosign from Drake (other noticeable cosigns include Migos, DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Rick Ross and Trina). It will take three weeks to do the work that needs to be done and then the Defendant can surrender as her first album and its promotion will be done. She can do her time knowing that upon her release her group will be ready to start their second album and tour.”

However, the judge denied the 30 day request, and instead, awarded Johnson with an additional four days to surrender. As a result, she was able to appear at the awards, and has since secured a No. 1 record by way of Drake with single, “In My Feelings.”
