Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant is at the center of some pretty serious allegations that involve violence against a teenager.
New details have been revealed about an altercation that took place at Morant’s Memphis home in July 2022. During a pickup game with a 17-year-old boy and several others, Morant is accused of punching the local high-school player in the head. The young man says one of the NBA pro’s friends also assaulted him, which resulted in a large lump on his head. In addition, the unidentified minor says he was knocked to the ground before the 23-year-old went into his home and came back out with a firearm concealed in his waistband.
The teen’s mother filed a police report shortly after, and the case was submitted to the DA’s office on October 4th. To the family’s dismay, the office declined to proceed with charges. A month prior, the boy filed a lawsuit against Morant. He says the entire ordeal was blown out of proportion, stemming from an accident that involved him throwing the ball and hitting Morant in the face. This allegedly infuriated Morant, who struck him with a closed fist. Morant previously claimed self-defense to law enforcement after the altercation.
Unfortunately, a separate incident just four days before the fight with the teen is not helping his case. Morant is also accused of threatening a security guard inside a Memphis mall. That situation escalated after his mother got into an argument with a Finish Line employee.
The teenager is seeking unspecified damages.
