Taking the stage, the rapper shared heartfelt words, his voice heavy with emotion.
“I just want to say, Irv, I love you,” he expressed. “Everyone in this room loves you. You touched everybody in your own way in this room.”
He concluded the speech with, “I love you, my brother. See you when I get there.”
His final words were met with immediate applause from the crowd, including Jay-Z, who was seated in the front row.
Earlier this month, Gotti passed away at the age of 54. The Murder Inc. co-founder’s cause of death has yet to be revealed, though reports indicate he suffered a stroke and a brain bleed before his passing. His family issued a heartfelt statement mourning the devastating loss, reflecting on his impact on the music industry and their personal lives.
The funeral followed the unexpected cancellation of a previously planned public memorial. Instead, Gotti’s family opted for a more intimate gathering.
“Please be advised that the funeral services for Irving ‘Irv Gotti’ Lorenzo will not take place on Tuesday, February 18th. Instead, there will be a private service for family and close friends on Wednesday. Following the private service, a public procession will occur,” read a statement on Gotti’s official Instagram page. “Further details regarding the procession will be provided soon. Thank you.”
Gotti’s illustrious career included DJing for Jay-Z before launching Murder Inc., which was home to artists Ja Rule, Ashanti, Charli Baltimore, Lloyd, and more. He was also instrumental in DMX signing with Def Jam.
