Ja Rule is owning up to a not-so-smooth move from his early dating days with wife Aisha Atkins. The rapper shared that back when he was broke, some of their best dates involved sneaky getaways from Red Lobster—without ever settling the bill.
“I’ve known my wife since I was broke,” Ja Rule, 49, told Us Weekly. “I actually ran out on the meal, and she didn’t know it. I told her, ‘Hey, let me take care of this. The cab’s outside. Go get in.’”
According to the rapper, Red Lobster’s layout made it too easy.
“Right by the door was the bathroom and pay phone. People used to fake like they were on the phone, then slide out,” he admitted. Years later, when he finally came clean to Aisha, her response was priceless: “‘You didn’t do that.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I did it a couple times.’”
Now, 24 years into marriage and raising three children, Ja Rule and Aisha laugh about those moments. The Queens native, who now co-owns Amber & Opal whiskey, recently debuted a Frozen Honeycomb cocktail at Tender Crush in SoHo. Additionally, he has sold millions of records worldwide.
Needless to say, he can afford his Red Lobster tab these days.
