Remember the Little League Baseball team hailing from the Southside of Chicago that made a name for themselves earlier last year as an incredible All African American team playing in the Little League World Series? Well following investigation sparked by rival Coaches of teams from around the world, they have been stripped of their titles. The initial allegation was made by another Chicago league’s Vice President who says that he went as far as researching vehicle registration, and voter’s information on the team member’s families.
Jackie Robinson West had been under investigation for the possible use of illegally manipulating district boundaries for their own advantage. Basically saying that the team had players that didn’t live in their respective area, and that they “stacked the team with players from the suburbs.”
On top of the Championship Title being stripped, the team’s Regional Championship was stripped, Manager Darold Butler has been suspended, as well as Illinois District 4 Administrator Michael Kelly being removed from his position.
Despite a previous investigation that had been deemed closed, the CEO of little League Baseball, Stephen Keener announced on Tuesday that the matter had been reviewed and that a statement on its outcome would be released on Wednesday.
The allegations sparked a pretty nasty war of words aimed towards the team with references of them being child-like Barry Bonds and Lance Armstrongs, both of whom took illegal drug enhancements.
The Jackie Robinson West Little League won the U.S. Championship in 2014 after a pretty incredible run within the states and went on to play in the Little League World Championship where they lost.
