Jacob Blake, the black man who was shot several times and left paralyzed by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, has been released from a Milwaukee hospital.
Blake’s attorney, Patrick Cafferty, declined to provide extensive details. But he confirmed that the 29-year-old is facing a long road to recovery after being transported to “a spinal injury rehabilitation center in Chicago,” he said, adding, “I can’t provide more details.”
According to CNN, Blake was shot multiple times during an altercation with police back in August. He suffered injuries to his arm, kidney, liver, and spinal cord, and his family initially said he was paralyzed from the waist down, but it’s now unclear if that condition was permanent.
Patrick Salvi Jr., another attorney representing the family, told CNN back in August, “He had a bullet go through some or all of his spinal cord, at least one bullet. He has holes in his stomach. He had to have nearly his entire colon and small intestines removed.”
Kenosha police confronted Blake after he tried to break up an altercation between two women. The horrific exchange that was caught on video showed officers following Blake around a black SUV yelling at him to stop.
As Blake tried to entire his vehicle, one of the officers grabbed him by his shirt before unloading seven shots into his back, right in front of Blake’s young children ages 3, 5, and 8, who were in the car.
