Actress Jada Pinkett Smith says that her “sisterhood” with Will Smith’s ex-wife, Sheree Zampino, took 20 years to solidify.
During the recent episode of her Facebook series, “Red Table Talk,” the “Set It Off” star opened up about her relationship with Zampino, which has faced its share of trials and tribulations since she married Will Smith in the 90s. Joined by daughter Willow, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and fellow actress Angela Bassett via video chat, Pinkett Smith said building the bond with her husband’s ex-wife was one of her biggest obstacles.
“When I think about our relationship now, there’s a real sisterhood there. But it took 20-some years,” she admitted.
Pinkett Smith, who recently celebrated her 50th birthday, said that combining their families was a “transformation for all of us.” She explained that all parties within the blended family had to come to a place of understanding and “utter acceptance.”
“Ree has acceptance for me and all my nonsense. I have acceptance for her and all her nonsense. There’s a real beautiful sisterhood there,” Pinkett Smith added.
Zampino has also shown her appreciation for their friendship. She recently penned a sweet birthday message to the actress on Instagram, writing, “I love you and look forward to adventures, conversations & experiences on this side of life with you!” The “Hollywood Exes” star even made an appearance on the series premiere of “Red Table Talk” in 2018, where the ladies spoke candidly about their relationship over the years.
Will Smith and Zampino wed in 1992 and had their son, Trey Smith, that same year. The couple split in 1995. And in 1997, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor married newcomer Pinkett Smith. The couple shares two children, Jaden and Willow.
