It’s incredibly accurate to say Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband, Will Smith, don’t have the most common marriage practices. Celebrating their wedding day is no different.
“Red Table Talk” has set the stage for open-minded and honest conversations between the Smith matriarch, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and daughter, Willow Smith. The original Fresh Prince came up in the discussion where Jada opened up more about their 21-year marriage. Amid all confessions that may have surprised fans, Pinkett-Smith revealed another when she confessed that celebrating their wedding anniversary is not a thing in the Smith household.
Rather than spending time together, hanging out separately is the more attractive way of saying, “I love you.”
Jada said, “It’s more of a life partnership, so it’s not steeped in marital [or] that day. We don’t really celebrate that day anymore in that sense because the context of our union is totally different.” The actress continued, “I like to be inside. I don’t wanna be out in the world. He now has the freedom to go and have an awesome adventure of some kind.”
Last year’s “Rap Radar” interview with Will is a perfect reference for Jada’s explanation, stating, “We don’t even say we’re married anymore…And it feels so good to get to that space where you’re not complaining, and worrying, and demanding that a person be a certain thing.”
